Malaysia explored!
on Ang_dan's travel map.
Today we are going to travel to Kuala Lumpur. We wanted to make sure we had lots time today in Kuala Lumpur so we got up nice and early and hailed a cab.
We took the Penang Bridge to the mainland. This bridge is the longest bridge in Asia. Then we took a train from Butterworth to Kuala Lumpur. Before we Left Penang we decided to visit the Penang Bird Park. It is said to feature over 300 species of birds. Butterworth as we soon discovered is going to become a transportation hub for rail, sea, and air. After we were satisfied with the bird park we hopped on a train and viewed the beautiful countryside for just under 7 hours. Once we arrived in Kuala Lumpur we hastily found a Mc Donald’s and hungrily ate our burger and fries as we did not eat on our train ride
. After we finished eating we hailed a cab and headed to our hotel which is located in Bukit Bintang which is also known as the Golden Triangle. The hotel we are staying at is the Sarang Galloway Vacation home, which when you think about it, is not really a hotel, more like a Bed and Breakfast…without the breakfast. But the rooms are very nice! The house is a converted pre-war building that was built in 1920. It is a “warm cultural retreat” as described by the owners.

Stretching 88 stories high are the Petronas Twin Towers. We went up to the 41st story and took in the beautiful cityscape of Kuala Lumpur from the Skybridge. Or at least we would have had we known we had to get tickets in the morning, and be there before 7:30. Although admission is free, only 1700 tickets are given out each day. We decided to do that tomorrow, and head to the Petaling Street. But first we bought a miniature Petronas Tower souvenir to take home. We saw hundreds of stalls, selling everything from silk to pewter and other trinkets and gadgets. Then we headed back to our hotel which was about a 20 minute walk.
Once we returned to our hotel we had a traditional Malaysian take on tea valled Teh Tarik It was delicious.
